National Anti-Hunger Organization Welcomes New Board Members

For Immediate Release

Hunger Free America, a nationwide anti-hunger advocacy and direct service organization, is pleased to announce the addition of three new members to its Board of Directors. Joining the board are Aaron Bernthal, a Wealth Management Advisor with Northwestern Mutual; Gary Davis, Founder and CEO of ES Foods; and Julia Duncan, a consultant with Accenture Federal Services.

Hans Taparia, Chair of Hunger Free America’s Board of Directors, said, “We are honored that three accomplished professionals of diverse backgrounds are so dedicated to the anti-hunger cause that they have agreed to join our Board of Directors. They will significantly boost our efforts to create the policies and programs needed to end hunger in America.”

Aaron Bernthal, a graduate of McGill University, has previously used his background in financial services to aid wounded veterans with financial planning.

“I feel very fortunate to be able to serve on the HFA board,” said Bernthal. “Providing nutritious food to those in need is not only critical to the health of the people we serve but also to the health of the nation as a whole. I feel honored to be surrounded by several likeminded individuals who all share this common goal.”

Gary Davis, a longtime supporter of Hunger Free America, founded ES Foods — a school meals and summer meals food provider — in 1998. Davis also helped launch the Got Breakfast campaign, which aims to increase the number of children who receive school breakfasts.

“Despite our country’s incredible prosperity, it is simply not acceptable that tens of millions of our citizens are food insecure,” said Davis.

Julia Duncan comes to HFA with a wealth of experience having previously worked at the U.S. State Department and for the Obama Administration on food security issues, as well as for Google. She earned a BA from the University of Virginia and a MA from Johns Hopkins University. Duncan has been a consultant at Accenture Federal Services since January 2018.

“HFA is working in innovative and inclusive ways to eliminate the root causes of hunger,” said Duncan. “I’m honored to join the board and contribute to the mission of ending hunger in America.”
